2026年9月，中国科学院合肥物质科学研究院联合相关团队，在嫦娥六号带回的月壤中识别出一种能够稳定保存的特殊铁相。研究人员从撞击形成的玻璃颗粒中发现纳米级金属铁，其中包含通常需要高温才能稳定存在的面心立方结构铁。电子显微分析进一步显示，部分较大颗粒具有稳定的单磁涡旋结构。

月球表面的磁性矿物可能保存古老磁场信息，因此颗粒的组成与磁结构，会影响科学家对月球磁场历史的判断。团队利用电子全息技术观察单颗粒磁性，并在外加磁场变化时跟踪其响应。研究认为，微量元素加入、撞击熔体快速冷却和周围玻璃的约束，可能共同帮助特殊铁相保存到今天。这项发现增加了可用于研究月球剩磁的物质线索，也提示不同铁相可能记录撞击过程中的不同阶段。它尚不能单独确定月球古磁场来源，仍需结合更多磁学实验和模拟判断具体记录能力。
